How to Create a Master Retreat (without spending any money!)

Is your to-do list for your home a mile long?  I know mine is! Often, the master bedroom is pretty far down on the list.  The master bedroom is your getaway, your place to take a breath and be away from all of the business and crazy that often lives in the rest of the house.  It should not be a place full of clutter that stresses you out!

Here are a few things you can do without spending any money that will have you well on your way to a master bedroom retreat.

  1. Declutter.  Take 10 minutes and get rid of the clothes and piles of stuff that have accumulated.  All the ‘stuff’ can clutter your mind as well as your space.  Minimize the piles and your stress will minimize as well.

  1. Utilize the closed storage you already have.  Put things away.  Behind the closet doors, inside dresser drawers, or in an armoire.  We all need things, but getting them out of the open will do wonders for how you wake up feeling, and how the space looks!

  1. Make the bed. It may seem easy enough, but we often are up and on our way quickly, leaving this task undone.  Making the bed has multiple positives- it keeps dust out of the sheets, it keeps the sheets fresher, and it welcomes you at the end of the day.  Seeing a made bed is more relaxing than one that looks disheveled.  Hate making the bed? Make it easy on yourself and minimize the number of decorative pillows you have.

  1. Light a candle.  The fresh-smelling or de-stressing types are highly recommended!

In 4 easy steps, you are already closer to having a master bedroom retreat.  Give it a try and let me know how it goes!  I’ll be discussing Bedding in my next blog.  Custom vs. semi-custom vs bed in a bag… so many choices!
