Today I organized. It felt really good. I’m exhausted, but I feel much more prepared to take on what this Fall brings. My husband is a high school math teacher. His district is fully remote, so the office that I worked hard to decorate and make my own, has been turned over to him so he can shut the doors and teach 6 periods a day. My daughters will be on a hybrid schedule. Some days will be remote, some days will be at school. We got their desks all set up for learning. I also purchased a new desk for myself so I could have a spot of my own.
My word for the year? Flexibility. Seems everything, from our schedules to the “normal” function of the rooms in our homes, have to become flexible. Having to create a remote learning area and another office space I took on as a design challenge. No different than any other design challenge I typically face. There is a problem to be solved, so let’s do it! While covering all the necessary design elements, I looked at the functions of the rooms differently than I have before.
In organizing, one of my favorite things that naturally occurs is the purge. Finding so many things that I can donate or toss make me feel less stressed and able to remove some of the clutter that seems to make its way in. In the design/organizing phase, I spent some time ordering new products that will make all our lives easy. I love organization that looks good too! I have some favorites that I gravitate toward and some new ones as well.
We now have, an art studio/homework/project room. An office/math classroom. An office/zoom call/charging space. Bring on the school year!
