I am so excited to share our latest home renovation project!

My incredible Chicagoland clients, Ken and Katie, came to me with a dated condo kitchen that was not ideal for entertaining.

The kitchen had an awkward peninsula and no sight-lines to the family room leaving a huge disconnect between working in the kitchen while entertaining guests.

After discussing their needs, budget and timeline we knew we had to get creative. They desired a modern and open kitchen with a $40,000 budget (excluding appliances and flooring).

We hoped to open up the wall to the family room, remove the peninsula for better flow, and add a wine bar area to bring the eating area into the kitchen.

But, being in a condo building, codes are different and walls are metal studs, not wood. You cannot move a wall or take a wall out if plumbing to your neighbor above is running through it!

After contacting the architect to get building and unit drawings, we found we were able to open up the wall between the kitchen and family room. This would be the first step to connecting the two spaces and make for a better space to entertain!

We took the clients to the design center to select cabinet color, style, and finalize the layout. We also selected a gorgeous linear backsplash with a lot of depth and a marble look countertop.

But one of our favorite finishing touches was the dual-colored cabinets-that provided dramatic interest in the space. Our clients chose a white shaker and beautiful blue for an accent.

Although challenges always arise on projects we always get past them. The results are worth every minute!

The before and after photos tell an amazing transformation story!
