It is exciting to think about remodeling projects for your home. Before you grab the hammer, you need to prepare first.  Here are my top 3 steps to take before the project starts.

  1. Decide your budget. Knowing your budget is the most important step you can take. It’s not always a fun subject, but going in blind will cause you to overspend thus stressing over your project and how much it’s costing that you did not plan for. Do your research. Put actual numbers on items you will need to purchase as well as labor. Adding 5-10% for unforeseen expenses. Not only will your project go smoother but you’ll sleep better knowing your numbers!
  2. Declutter. Think of it like you are moving. You don’t want to it something in a box that you don’t need back in the room. Using the keep, toss, donate, sell method clear out the space that will be remodeled. Make sure you allow enough time for this. Don’t clear it out the night before the demo. Give yourself some time to go through cabinets, drawers, etc so you don’t throw everything in a box and have to deal with it at the end of the project.
  3. Work with people you trust. Don’t try to take on a remodel by yourself or you’ll end up overwhelmed and regretful. A designer is someone that should work with you to bring your dream project to life. Ask your friends for referrals. If they don’t have one turn to trusted internet sites for someone that has experience with projects like yours. Having a trusted team in place before your project begins will make for a much smoother and enjoyable process.

If you have planned the people, the funds and the design, remodels can be a fun and rewarding experiacne.  Need help? Book a free call with me HERE and let’s get your project started!
